Tulip, paint
Closets were rare in colonial homes, so chests were used to store clothing, blankets, sheets, and other textiles (items made from cloth). This red-painted chest features a hinged lid with a deep well for storage of bulky items, and two drawers at the bottom. Said to have come from Durham, it has ‘pumpkin’ or ‘ball’ feet.
