Pipe tongs were used to pick up an ember to light a pipe. These tongs belonged to Comfort Starr (1669-1743), a tailor who lived in the Kingsnorth-Starr House at 138 State Street in Guilford. Notice the decorative zigzag line scratched along the sides.
