Military uniform of navy wool.; condition good. A. Double breasted coat with tails, shoulder ornaments, bras buttons and elaborate braid trim on sleeves. Cream satin sash with sequin star decoration; OL: 43 1/2" B. Blue pants with red and white stripe down the leg; OL: 46".
Dress uniform belonging to Brig. Gen. William Wright Harts.  Worn for formal functions at the White House.
From catalog.archives.gov/id/10570702, William Wright Harts (b. Aug. 29, 1866, Springfield, Ill.-d. Apr. 21, 1961), Brigadier General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1889 and began service with the Corps of Engineers. He was involved in a large variety of construction projects, including river and harbor improvements, locks and dams, and army camps. During World War I, he acted as military aide to President Wilson and served with the British and French in the 6th U.S. Engineering Regiment. This highly-decorated officer also served as chief of staff, Army of Occupation, Germany, in 1919 and 1920, and as military attaché in the American Embassy in Paris from 1926 to 1930.
