Small framed daguerreotype in booklet type picture frame (no cover), trimmed in brass, 2" x 1 3/4".  Image is only 1 1/4" x 1".  The photo is of artwork, "Les Anges de la Passion ou Le Calice", painted in oil on board by Charles Zacharie Landelle in 1847 (24 1/2” x 19”) and made into engraved prints in 1851.
According to MUDO – Musée de l’Oise (http://mudo.oise.fr/en/the-collections/the-19th-century-collection/oeuvre/landelle-charles-zacharie-les-anges-de-la-passion-ou-le-calice/), "The religious subject of this painting presents us with two entwined children, one resting his head on the shoulder of the other who holds a chalice in his right hand. Only the title of the painting tells us that these characters are angels. The chalice held by one of the two contains the blood shed by Jesus at the time of the Crucifixion. The angels' sad expression can therefore be explained by the event they witnessed but which is not directly visible to the spectator. This performance depicting the sweet sadness and the somewhat suave gravity of two children meditating on the death of the Savior was a great success. It was engraved in 1851 allowing the printing of many prints."
