Description
This chair is attributed to Scottish-American cabinetmaker and furniture designer, Duncan Phyfe. It was originally from the home of Abraham Van Buskirk, a New York merchant born in 1765. He had a daughter, Catherine Ann, with his wife Eunice. In 1816, Catherine Ann married Wilton resident Isaac M. Sturges. The couple built a home on what is today Sturges Ridge in Wilton. The chair, passed down from Catherine Ann's father, remained in the home on Sturges Ridge until Catherine and Isaac's deaths in the mid-19 century.
