The building that is today the Wilton Baptist Church was once St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Founded in 1802, the first Episcopal Society in Wilton separated from St. Paul's in Norwalk and constructed a small church on the land of Samuel Belden at the corner of Old Highway and Danbury Road. The original wooden structure was replaced by the stone building seen here in 1863. The building remained the home of the Episcopal Church until 1971, when it moved to a new building a few miles away on New Canaan Road, and the building became the home of the Wilton Baptist Church.
