Length 34” along top flat; Depth 18.5”; Height of top 4.5”Overall dimensions of front 22.5” high, 34” length 18.5 deep.2 leather strapped handles on each end with decorative metal attachment 10” long 1.25” wide. On the left side the leather handle is missing.Painted brown with black tin edging all around top and bottom, and center of lid. All tin attached with many nails, corners have decorative metal edge top, bottom, extra holdings. Top has two extra support boards 2” wide, nailed down. Front has a block (brass) plus two latches. Two leather straps surround the entire trunk and held in place with decorative metal and leather strap buckle on front of trunk. There is an insert 6” deep. A 10“ separate box area on right side with a pull up lid. Inside is quite remarkable with a basket weave design paper. Finger holes 1.5” on either side of insert for lifting out. Even the rail support for insert is papered in the same basket weave pattern. One hinge, inside, for lid, in the left corner, metal, measuring 8.5” long 1” wide; Bottom lined with newspaper The Utica Observer Dispatch, April 27, 1930. In the small box a newspaper, The Albany New York Times Union, Sunday, June 26, 1955. A key with string attached is inside. Condition is remarkable. Shows wear. Closes nicely. Reddish brown paint or stain. Black paint on all metal pieces.
