gray and forbidding view of an old Victorian house seen from the back, wit ha red brick, one story factory behind it. Gruond is covered with snow, and a cat searches for food at the base of a barrel in foreground. Signed and dated lower right corner in bright red paint "Joel R Anderson / 1955". It is believed that Anderson lived in the apartment building in the painting (on Prospect Street, Waterbury) at the time it was painted (source: Vincent Miceli, July 17, 1998). Framing company tag back of frame upper left corner. Frame 33" x 29.25". and purcahsed for the painting by A D Cronk in 1965 from the "Louvre Frame Co., Plymouth, Conn. 06782". Painting purcahsed from the artist in 1961 by Adelbert and Helen Cronk. Adelbert was an employee of Platt Brothers and was also an artist. The painting was donated to te Mattatuck in 1997 by Adelbert's daughters.
