Collection, Ms B69

1850 – 1924
Fairfield Museum
Sarah Burr, daughter of Ebenezer and Hannah Osborne Burr, married James Bulkley in 1852. They had no children. James (b. 1828) was the son of James and Ellen Sherwood Bulkley. His brother, Benjamin Sherwood Bulkley married Eliza Anna Burr, Sarah's sister. Their son James Osborne Bulkley married Helen Foster. Helen's siblings included Florence, Eloise and Benjamin. See the entries from family genealogies in the collection file for additional information.
The collection was donated by Florence Bulkley, the child of James O. and Helen Foster Bulkley. It primarily consists of letters to her great aunt Sarah Bulkley from Sarah's siblings David, Angeline and Cornelia, discussing family matters. Other Bulkley items include a letter to Eliza Ann Burr from Angeline Burr, 1864; an account book of Bulkley & Co., 1862-1869 documenting the sale of butter; James O. Bulkley's farm account book, 1899-1901; photographs of James O. Bulkley's children Florence and James, ca. 1919-1922, and of James junior's motor boat and schooner. Foster family members are represented by letter to Florence Foster, 1895, 1924; a letter to Benjamin W. Foster, 1899; and a bill to Eloise Foster, 1881.

Several items were removed from the collection and cataloged separately or added to other collections.
