Summagraphics Corp. was founded in Fairfield, CT by Albert J. Whetsone in 1973 under the name Scriptographics Corporation. In one year, it became the major supplier of computer-input devices that translate graphic information into computer-usable, form.The executive offices were based at 398 Kings Highway; a second manufacturing facility was opened in 1974 which contained 6500 square feet of manufacturing and office space on Brentwood Avenue. In 1980 and in 1984, space was increased again for manufacturing and offices for about 300 local employees. In 1986 Summagraphics introduced the computer mouse and by 1988 it was the largest supplier of graphics tablets in the world, for PC-based systems and Macintosh computers.
The collection consists of three boxes of company documents. Box 1 covering mostly sales, advertisements, company newsletters ranging from 1982-1994, annual reports. Box 2 and 3 contain technical and user manuals for many of the digitizers, tablets and other peripherals that Summagraphics manufactured.
