The Prichard Family Papers documents several generations of the Prichard family, who were from Waterbury, CT. The collection is entirely paper based and includes document types: newspaper clippings, correspondence, financial documents, ledgers, scrapbooks, and legal documents.

The collection is focused on two themes: professional and personal. Roughly fifty percent of the collection documents various family businesses including carpentry, cabinet making, button making, and the Charles Island Resort. A small portion of the collection reflects personal activities and relationships largely through correspondence. The remaining portions of the collection document Sarah and Katharine's research into local history and their professional writings, which is both professional and personal.

Lastly, the collection is naturally divided into sections based on which Prichard family member created or received the document. General and unknown items are listed in the beginning.
