1661 – 1961
Fairfield Museum
This collection is a compilation of the municipal and legal papers of Fairfield, including Greenfield, Greens Farms, Southport, Stratfield, and Weston, held by the Fairfield Historical Society. Also included are some tax records for the town of Trumbull for the years 1878-1889.
This collection consists of three and a half boxes and three oversized items. The first two boxes contain some of the original tax lists of Fairfield, Greenfield, Green Farms, Southport, Stratfield and Weston, and miscellaneous papers and fragments relating to taxes in these areas. Box III contains handwritten copies of excerpts from Colonial records regarding votes, meetings, and land records; miscellaneous deeds; probate documents; selectmen's papers; and other assorted town ledgers and papers. Also, several Trumbull tax lists belonging to the Society are included in this box. Writs dating from 1770 to 1825 are filed in the last box. Oversized tax lists and ledgers listing bank stocks and real estate transfers are contained in three oversized packages (items).
Within folders all material is arranged in chronological order. The number in parentheses following the title gives the approximate number of documents contained in that folder. For a more detailed breakdown of the collection, see the Table of Contents.
