The First Located School Society in Fairfield bought land in 1830 to create burial ground known as East Cemetery. Several months later, they purchased land on the other side of town for West Cemetery, In 1863 the Fairfield Cemetery Association was founded to manage East Cemetery; the Association was reorganized in 1909. The last secretary-treasurer of the group was Eben Burr who died in 1996. Additional information about the First Located School Society can be found in Ms14, Fairfield School Records.

Oak Lawn Cemetery Association was incorporated December 29, 1865 as a stock company to purchase twelve acres of land on Bronson Road for a burial ground. The initial stock holders included some of the most prominent men in town, including Edwin Sherwood, William Webb Wakeman, Moses Bulkley and Jonathan Godfrey. The Association continues today as a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors composed of lot holders. The collection primarily consists of minutes, administrative records, deeds, bequests, and financial records of the First Located School Society and the Fairfield Cemetery Association. Folder A consists of minutes, 1863-1953 and includes a copy of the articles of association. Copies of plot maps are in folder B; the originals are stored in the reading room flat files with other cemetery plans. Legal documents include articles of agreement, 1863, by-laws, 1909, a Senate bill, 1920, and a resolution passed by the association, 1946, in folder C; deeds, 1830-1921 in folder D; wills and bequests, 1906-1924; and transit permits for moving bodies, 1911-1912. Correspondence, primarily concerning the management of bequests and investment of those funds, 1897-1962, are organized chronologically in folder G. Financial records, 1883-1962, consists of treasurers' reports, journals, balance statements, and fund accounts and are arranged in folders H and I.

Records kept by secretary-treasurer Eben Burr between 1956-1984 are arranged in folders J and K and consist of a check book, 1950-1956, items removed from the check book, a list of burials from 1958-1984, and an investment account, 1986.

A manuscript plot map of the West Cemetery as set out by the First Located School Society is the only record for this cemetery, stored in folder L. Additional maps can be found in the reading room flat files. Folder M contains the records of the Oak Lawn Cemetery Association, 1865-1909, consisting of a petition of organization and various information pamphlets.
