Bulkley Family Papers

This Bulkley family descended from Thomas, Daniel and Peter who settled in Fairfield in the middle 1600s. Their ancestors became farmers, store owners, blacksmiths, seamen, politicians, shipping merchants, owners and brokers. Eleazer Bulkley (1763-1843) and later his sons were successfully engaged in shipping in New York and Southport, Connecticut. - The History of Fairfield, by Elizabeth Hubbell Schenck, Vol. I, New York, 1889 - Family of Rev. This collection consists of six full boxes and one-half box. Box 1 contains deeds by date, probate papers, writs by date, legal papers, bills, and bills receipted alphabetized in Folders A-S. Box 2, Fodlers A-J hold shipping bills, financial papers and correspondence. Folders K-U hold shipping papers including bills of lading, manifests, and receipts arranged alphabetically. Boxes 3 through 5 contain account books and diaries. Shipping books are placed in Boxes 6 and 7. There are four oversize items - A through E. These are account books and bank check books.
