George Hull (ca. 1590-1659) was the immigrant ancestor of the Fairfield branch of the Hull family in America. He arrived in the Massachusetts colony about 1631-32 and helped settled Windsor, Conn. in 1636 and Fairfield in 1647. George's son Cornelius (1627-2695) had a son Samuel (d. 1720) and and grandson Samuel (1696-1787). Theophilus (1697-1748), George's great-grandson, had a son Theophilus (1725-1785). Eliphalet Hull (1700-1737), also one of George's great-grandsons, had sons Seth, John (1732-1791) and Daniel. John and his wife Eleanor Sherwood Hull (1740-1822) had children John (1763-1830), Sarah or Sally (1766-1825), Benjamin (1769-1820), Mabel (1771-1847), Lyman (1773-1822) and Eliphalet (1776-1842). Martha Hull (1701-1782), a great-granddaughter of George's and the daughter of Cornelius (1655-1740), evidently was a weaver, as evidenced by her account book. She married David Sherwood about 1727. Another of George's grandsons, John (1704-1761), lived in Newtown. The area of Fairfield where most of this family settled is known as Hulls Farms.
