The Perry family’s first settler in Fairfield was Richard who was granted land in the middle 1600’s. There followed generations of merchants, farmers, shippers, storekeepers, millers, teachers, bankers and politicians.Kate Emily Peet Perry (1842-1882) whose papers are in this collection was the author of Chapter XXX, Volume 1 in Hurd’s History of Fairfield County, Connecticut & The Old Burying-Ground of Fairfield, Connecticut, American Publishing Company, 1882.Some of the materials include correspondence, deeds, financial records and other miscellaneous items pertaining to David P. Perry, son of Joseph Perry and Mary (Beers) Perry (widow of Elihu Alvord), and his twin brother, Joseph, and step-brother, Elihu.
Box I contains deeds, legal papers, financial papers, letters including correspondence to the Southport Savings Bank, house plans and building contracts. Box II and Box III hold account books and Box IV contains account books, genealogy "The Perry Family" by Kate Peet, notebooks and diaries, as well as correspondence to David B. Perry, from his twin bother Joseph, his stepbrother Elihu Alvord, his nephew Joseph Perry, and customers, among others. Oversize items / boxes A through L are journals, day books and account books. A photocopy of Peter Perry's (1738/9-1821) mill book is on the library reading room shelf (974.6092 P464J Vol. 1-4 and INDEX).
