Mohican Spring Water Company Records

Collection, MS B146

1905 – 1935
Fairfield Museum
The Mohican Spring Water Company distributed spring water as well as ginger ale, lemon soda, root beer, and soda water. It was located on the current site of Lake Mohegan. The plant burned in 1905 and bankruptcy was declared in 1907 though the business seems to have continued operation.

According to notes in our vertical file from Charles Chotkowski, the company was owned by the parents of Mrs. mark Black, who sold it to Mr. Fox, a dealer in used furniture. The bottling plant was located on Morehouse Highway near the Mill River bridge. Labels have been found among the ruined foundations for ginger ale, lemon soda, lemon sour, root beer, and natural spring water. Bottles have been found marked "Mohegan Springs, Mohegan, Conn." Label are marked "Mohegan Springs, N.Y., N.Y, via the springs at Bridgeport, Conn."
Most the materials date from 1905-1911.
