In 1975, Elizabeth Gerteiny began a series of oral history interviews for the Fairfield Public Library centered on the reminisces of Hungarian residents of Fairfield, Connecticut. The collection was given to the Fairfield Historical Society by the Fairfield Public Library.
The collection contains audiotape cassette interviews, transcriptions with some indexing, along with supporting documentation (no transfer of ownership rights) for 19 oral history interviews of Hungarian residents of Fairfield recorded in the mid 1970s. All the interviewees are of Hungarian descent and tell of their lives and the lives of their family members and neighbors who lived in Fairfield’s Hungarian community during the the first 75 years of the 20th century.
