Bradley-Bulkeley-Wakeman Families

Collection, Ms B100

1880 – 1900
Fairfield Museum
The donor's great grandmother, Ana Belle Bulkeley, married Simon Couch Bradley (b. 1858). Anna Belle, the daughter of Moses Aaron and Elizabeth Wakeman Bulkeley, was born in 1859 in Kendallville, Indiana, but spent most of her childhood in Fairfield, Conn., following her father's untimely death. Anna Belle and Simon, who lived on Greenfield Hill, had daughters Elizabeth (who married Theodore Sturges) and Sarah Esther (who married Joseph Nelson Hutchison). For more genealogical information, see the biographical material in the collection file.
The photograph albums and loose images in this collection represent various family members and friends of the Bulkeley and Bradley families, most of whom are Sherwood, Charles W. Johnson, Amy Young Johnson, and John Bradley. Photographers were located in such town as Bridgeport, Norwalk, Hartford, and Westport, Conn.; Greenville, South Carolina; New York City, and Brooklyn, NY; and Akron and Geneva, Ohio. The volumes were numbered arbitrarily, since Bradley-Bulkeley-Wakeman Families the same images appear in several different albums, giving no indication of date or specific family. Loose images from the various albums were removed and identified with the volume from which they were taken.

The gift also included three dresses, worn by Anna Belle Bulkeley Bradley and Frances Bradley Hutchison Tyler at their respective weddings, and a third dress dating from the 1840s. These have been transferred to the museum.
