Fedor Jeftichew (Jo-Jo The Dog-Faced Russian Boy)

January 1868 – January 1904
Fedor Jeftichew was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1868, although the exact month and date are unknown. His father was Adrian Jeftichew, a performer with hypertrichosis who performed in French circuses. Fedor inherited his father's hairiness, but we know little else of Fedor's early life beyond that fact and that he frequently performed with his father. His father died sometime around 1873.

Fedor came to the attention of agents of P.T. Barnum in 1884, when Fedor was performing in Liverpool. Fedor decided to sign a contract and head to the United States. It was at that time he gained the stage name of Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Russian Boy and other like variants, and gained a reputation for being gentle and highly intelligent. He spoke Russian, German, and English, and supposedly two other languages according to some sources.

Following the end of his contract with P.T. Barnum, Fedor participated in other tours. Fedor passed away in 1904 in Salonica, Greece due to pneumonia.
