Railroad Museum of New England

Established in 1968 as the Connecticut Valley Railroad Association, the Railroad Museum of New England works to preserve and interpret the region’s rich railroad heritage—technological, economic, and social—for a new generation of visitors. Based at the historic 1881 Thomaston Railroad Station the Museum offers a variety of exhibitions as well as the ultimate interactive experience—a ride along the upper Naugatuck River Valley aboard vintage passenger trains operated by the Museum’s own Naugatuck Railroad. Special seasonal trains such as the Easter Bunny Express, Northern Lights Limited and Santa Express complement the summer runs on Fridays and Saturdays.

In addition to thousands of photographs, examples of ephemera, and railroad tools and equipment the Museum’s collection includes examples of locomotives as well as passenger and freight cars that served New England in the early-and-mid 20th Century. Offsite facilities include a modern shop facility providing maintenance and restoration services for the locomotives and rolling stock.
