Lillian Freedgood

1911 – 2004
Lillian lived in the Norwalk-Westport area between 1955-1967; she was married to writer Morton Eliot Freedgood; they had one daughter Laura. After CT, they eventually moved to New Jersey where she died in 2004.

She studied at Pratt Institute, Mrs. Freedgood studied at the Art Students League and at the Graphic Arts Center. After marrying in 1937, she worked as a commercial artist and illustrator. In CT she was an exhibiting member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists and also served as the guild's director of children's art through the 1950s. In NYC, she exhibited also at the National Academy of Design and Graphic Arts Center.

In 1957 she had a large one-person show of her graphic work at Silvermine, October 20- November 23, 1957, which was reviewed by James Daugherty in the Norwalk Hour, November 14, 1957.

She has also written books on art, among them, GREAT ARTISTS OF AMERICA (1963), a history of American art as told through the life stories of 15 painters from Gilbert Stuart in 1775 to modernist Stuart Davis. Illustrated with 15 color plates, for ages 6-12, and β€œAn Enduring Image, American Painting from 1665.”
