Walter Von Nessen

1889 – 1943
Von Nessen (1889-1943) was among the industrial designers called on to develop the initial Chase giftware line (and the most heavily promoted). Among his most notable designs for Chase are stylized bookends and coffee services. Von Nessen was particularly adept at taking preexisting metal parts from Chase's inventory and turning them into decorative items.

He relocated from Germany to New York City in 1927 and started Nessen Studios. He specialized in modern design, especially lighting. His wife, Greta Von Nessen, was the daughter of a Swedish architect. After Walter Von Nessen's death, she revived his company with her own designs.
