Powder Horn

1776 – 1779 (Date manufactured/created)
Horn
Measurement Notes: Overall length, 15”
Justus Plumb of Fairfield, a gunner's mate on the American brig Defense, owned this decorated powder horn, made by H. Pendelton. The designs include a picture of the Defense, a map showing the fort at Black Rock, a whale, and a sailor shaking a lion's tail. The lion was an emblem for England. The carved, animal-like face on the cap is unusual because it can be viewed from two directions.
