Also known as a roundabout, this type of chair was the preferred armchair for use at a desk. This example, made between 1700 and 1720, features a rush seat and three types of wood -- maple, curly maple, and ash. It belonged to Reverend John Hart (1682-1731), the first graduate of Yale College in 1703 and the first pastor of East Guilford (Madison) Congregational Church from 1707 to 1731.
