Militia Uniform Coat

Wool flannel, Pewter

After the American Revolution, many local militias adopted the uniforms worn by the Continental Army. This blue flannel militia coat with red facings and pewter buttons closely resembles ones worn by privates in the Continental Army in the early 1780s. It belonged to Phineas Dowd (1791-1834) of North Guilford, Connecticut.
Gift of Mrs. Sarah Annette Hubbard Hoadley of North Guilford in 1902
