Stamps were used to decorate the top of gingerbread by pressing them onto the dough after it was spread into the baking pan. This stamp, with its linear design, belonged to Sarah "Sally" Handy (1750-1849). She lived in the Leete's Island section of Guilford in 1781 when the British raided during the American Revolution.
