Pap spoons were used for administering medicine. The bowl of this pewter spoon is covered with a trap opening through which medicine was poured in, then it flowed through the hollow handle to the hole in the tip and into the patient's mouth. This pewter pap spoon was made by James Dixon & Sons in Sheffield, England in the 1800s.
