Cannon

1700 – 1720 (Date manufactured/created)
Iron
Originally used onboard a ship, this cannon is a four-pounder, referring to the weight of the cannonballs it fires. It could shoot as far as 1000 yards, and likely saw service during the War of 1812. It was found abandoned on a New York dock around 1830 by a Guilford captain who brought it home with him. Today, it sits in the Visitor Center courtyard on a reproduction carriage.
