Lantern, Candle

18th century (Date manufactured/created)
Tin; glass
Lanterns shielded candles from wind and prevented accidental fires that were often caused by an open flame. This version, with its glass front, was more expensive than a punched tin lantern (tin with tiny holes punched through it), but it provided a much brighter light. This lantern was made in New England and features punched stars along the base.
