Bed, Trundle

18th century (Date manufactured/created)
Oak
Space was at a premium in most Colonial homes, so furniture was designed with this in mind. This trundle bed with wheels would be rolled under another, higher bed during the day to save space. It is displayed backwards here — the headboard would actually become part of the footboard of the higher bed. Children and servants were most likely to sleep in trundles.
