Stone Anchor

Stone Anchor

Masonry Anchor

18th century (Date manufactured/created)
Wrought iron
This is one of two X-shaped stone anchors flanking the south chimney of the Whitfield House. An 1830s engraving is the earliest image of the house, and it shows the anchors. But it's unknown if the current anchors are original or reproductions. Masonry anchors support vertical walls with a metal rod that runs perpendicularly through the masonry and into the interior architectural structure.
