Son of Jonathan Wilcox 1753 - 1818, of East Guilford
Sixth descendant from John Willcocks, one of the founders of Hartford and from Chris Todd, one of the founders of New Haven.  Captain of Militia received and entertained Lafayette in his home (still standing on the green in 1824). 
Of the portrait painted in 1852 by an itinerant painter, he remarked: " I am told it is a tolerable likeness."
