Portrait of Eglantine
circa 1840 (Date manufactured/created)
Paper, Wood
Mezzotint engraving, partially retouched, titled "Eglantine" by Hippolyte Louis Garnier (1802-1855) and painted by Charlemagne Oscar Guet (1801-1871). Likely French - the left border is inscribed, "PEINT PAR O. GUET", and the right border is inscribed, "GRAVE PAR H. GARNIER".
Colored engraving of a young woman in a white blouse/shirt under a blue bodice trimmed in gold. She has on a green sash and is holding a strand of beads in her left hand. "Eglantine" is printed under the picture in large letters.
Originally the picture was in a gilded frame, badly deteriorated with a rough wood backboard. Sometime in the past, the image was removed from its frame and backboard for preservation. H: 18"; W: 13 1/2".
