Box - Wooden Box, Belonged to Daniel Hand

Wood (Pine)
Large rectangular pine box with hinged lid and dovetailed corners.  A black painted inscription on the lid, now barely visible, reads "G.W. / Daniel Hand / Guilford / Conn. / per blue line / to New Haven".  G.W. was Daniel Hand's business partner.  Box has a rough finish; it had been covered with layers of cambric and chintz.
16 1/4" tall, 25" wide, and 14 1/2" deep.  USA origin, 1850-1890.
Donated by Philip Platt.  Box was found in Hand's house upon his death in 1891.
