Spanish - American war ( 1898- 1902 ) Admiral's hat, elongated hat of black napped leather top covered with black ostrich feathers and with grosgrain ribbon bow; has rosette of pleated black satin ribbon on one side of crown and silver metal star on the other side; b: Specially contoured box to house the hat made of wood covered with canvas; hat is held in with elastic straps that buckle; box hinged at one end, fastened with latch at the other end; broken handle on top. Small metal tag on top of case reads " Patented Feb. 5, 1884, Ames Sword Co. Chicopee, MA.; " Geo. E. Paddock/ Comman---?/ Providence R.I. is stamped on side of case. Donated by H.R. (Dutch) Heilman
