Curatorial Description
John Hart's oak chest, late 17th century English origin. 3 panel joined chest with 3 panel lid.  Sides are single panel and the back is one long oak panel.  Lower front rail is shaped and has carved lunettes.  Top rail has carved paired leafs.  The front stiles have carved S-scrolls.  The bottom shows pit-saw marks and is reinforced by three pine supports added later.  Metal castors have been added to the legs, and the inside has been cedar-lined using modern techniques.  Hinge hardware is modern.  50 1/4" X 22 1/2" X 28 1/4".  Donated by Susan J.
