Large oil portrait of Mrs. Emily Fowler Clark Bushnell (10/25/1829-1/10/1869), painted by Montague Flagg in 1897 from an earlier photo (ACC# 79.807), as inscribed on the back of the canvas.  
Emily was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Emeline Fowler Clark. She married Cornelius Scranton Bushnell, of New Haven on July 19, 1849. They had nine sons and one daughter. She died just weeks after the birth of her tenth child. 
She is wearing a pale lavender dress and is shown against a yellow background. She is looking to the left. In a gold frame with beaded border.  A very similar portrait, unsigned but believed by the same artist but with a different palette, is at ACC 2021.015.001. H: 29 1/2" W: 24 3/8" sight, H: 34 7/8" W: 29 3/4" frame.
