Silhouette of a Mary Eliza Scranton (1840-1921) in an oval black stained wooden frame under glass.  In 1900, Mary Eliza Scranton donated to Madison a new library to honor her father, known as the E. C. Scranton Library.  The silhouette is painted black on paper (i.e., not a cut-out). The frame has a stand and ring at the top for hanging and machine embossed "Richard" on the stand.  A paper label inside the frame has "Mary Eliza Scranton" hand-written on it.  c. late 19th century.  H: 5 3/8"; W: 4" D: 1/2"
