China
White bisque china hen with comb lifts off a glazed china dish made to look like a tan woven basket.  China hen sat on the dinning table in the Jonathan S. Wilcox house since about 1830.  It came into possession of Elizabeth Todd Nash, who lived there.  Upon her death in 1943, she willed it to her cousin, the donor.  It was usually filled with cookies!
A "4" is indelibly painted on the bottom of dish, on the inside rim and on the cover under the tail of the hen.  Base: 8 5/8" X 7", 2 5/8" tall. Cover: 9" X 6", 5 3/4" tall.
