Bill of sale documenting the sale by Joshua Jennings of an enslaved man named Jack to David Lambert.
The document reads: "I Joshua Jennings of ye Town and County of Fairfield In ye Colony of Connecticut have Rec'd of David Lambert in Norwalk in the County of Fairfield the sum of sixty five pounds currant (sic) money of ye Province of New York for a Seartin (sic) Negro man Called Jack about thirty five years of Age which I have sold to ye D Lambert which negrow (sic) man I Promise to warrant & Defend to ye D Lambert against all Claims & Demands whatsoever In witness wherof (sic) I have herunto (sic) set my hand & seal this ninth Day of May 1757
