Wiltonians contributed to the local war effort by volunteering at airplane spotting posts at 12 Mollbrook Drive and 807 Ridgefield Road, joining the volunteer training corps at the old Orem's Field, working in the war production factory, and planting Victory Gardens. By war's end, more than 400 of Wilton's 2,900 residents had served in the military. Wilton also dealt with rationing due to shortages of resources. Rations were placed on various items including gasoline, tires and groceries. To buy rationed foods, including sugar, meat, cooking oil, and canned goods, one needed to present a removable stamp from a ration book.
