Granite
9 1/4" H X 13" W X 9 1/4" D
This triangular block of granite came from the Millstone Quarry, now known as Quarry Head Park. Granite from the quarry was used for construction projections both locally in Wilton, as well as in New York City, and even New Jersey. In 1871, Wilton's Granite Company received an order for 350,000 tons of granite for the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. Ultimately, the company turned down the job based on the challenges in transporting the stone from Quarry Head Park to New York City. Large granite blocks can still be seen in the park today.
