On October 15, 1969, a nationwide protest was held calling for an immediate moritorium on the Vietnam War. Communities across the country held demonstrations, including one in Wilton organized primarily by Wilton High School students of the "Wilton Peace Now Committee". This protest took the form of a march through Wilton Center, with marchers carrying this banner. At the conclusion of the march, over 400 protestors signed their names on the banner.
