1889 Reproduction of the Ulster County Gazette for Saturday, January 4, 1800, announcing the death and funeral of George Washington. Framed with glass on both sides. This newspaper page was reproduced in 1889 during a wave of patriotism across the country, and was not meant to purposely deceive.
It reprints descriptions of Washington’s funeral, comments by statesmen, and includes an anachronistic engraving of Washington (newspaper engravings did not exist in 1800). Back has numerous news stories from the Crimea, and an ad for a female slave.
Paper is very brown and deteriorated although well preserved between glass. L: 24", W: 18".
