Photographed by "A. Bogardus Photographer, 872 Broadway for. of 18th Street, New York".
The back is inscribed with the photographer's logo and, at the top in partially obscured hand writing, "Miss Inez Godman & Mr. & Mrs. Godman Colored people from their school they brought north from Ga. to Madison Connecticut in 1890."  Near the bottom, in the same handwriting, is inscribed," Dr. Godman in center Miss Inez Godman and Mrs. Dr. Godman at right of picture".  The devout Godmans supported various Freedmen schools and founded LaTech Home for Orphan Children in New Orleans.  They supported their school with traveling jubilee groups which went under various names over the years.  They stayed at a "beautiful summer home" in Madison (see ACC# 2009.116.016 c), but lived in the South.  Learn more about Rev.
