Photo - framed Locomotive image

1865
6 5/8 in. H X 8 1/2 in. W
Photograph of an earlier image of an.1860 locomotive, "Madison", which ran on the New Haven New London and Stonington railroad (NH,NL&S RR), which became the NYNH&H railroad, then the now-defunct Penn Central.  The photo tag includes "Joseph H Bready retired NH engineer", although it is not clear if the the engineer in the cab in the picture is Mr. Bready or if he was the original photographer.  Bready had been a full time train engineer in the 1800's and painter, and died in Westfield, Massachusetts in 1924.  This engine was built in 1860 by Rodgers Locomotive and Machine Works of Paterson, NJ.  9 similar 4-4-0 engines, most named after shoreline communities were built for this railroad by Rodgers between 1852 and 1868.  A portrait on the side of the front lantern is likely that of one of the railroad owners. This description from "Turner and Jacobus, Connecticut Railroads, page 7.
Image is in a plain brown wooden frame under glass, 8 1/2" x 6 5/8"
