Footed, porcelain decorative bowl designed by Candace Wheeler. The main bowl is glazed white and the foot is glazed black. Along the exterior front and side of the bowl there are flowering vines on a trellis. The vines taper and do not connect on the back of the bowl. The initials "CW" are monogrammed on the exterior front of the bowl surrounded by the flowers. Along the back rim of the bowl is black text reading: "How com'st thou in this pickle?"
Candice Wheeler (1827-1923) is often credited as the “mother” of interior design. As one of America’s first female interior and textile designers, she opened the field to other women and supported their right to work, thereby promoting women’s economic agency.
