Starting in 1949, an amateur baseball team representing Cannondale was formed. The players were recruited from the surrounding area, primarily Wilton. The Cannondale team played against other local teams from Norwalk, Georgetown, Branchville, New Canaan, and other Connecticut communities. The team played home games at Harb's Field, now the home of Wilton High School's tennis courts. By the mid-1950's, the team changed their name to the Wilton Farmers, after the semi-pro team that played in Wilton from 1920-1942 on a field located on the property of dairy farmer, Charlie Orem.
