Costume, Shoes - White Wedding Pumps | A. J. Cammeyer | American

January 1915 (Date copyrighted)
1910s (Date manufactured/created)
A pair of white satin pumps, worn by Florence Gates Judd, likely to her high society, 1915 wedding in Minneapolis due to the shape and style. The shape is characteristic of the mid 1910s, with a curvy Louis heel and softly pointed toe that lifts slightly off ground level. The style is also characteristic of wedding shoes in the period, in its material and decoration on the vamp. This ornament is a complex rosette with folds of gathered white organza interspersed with white ribbon points and white round beads.
The shoes have a soft brown leather sole stamped with "CAMMEYER," between the waist and toe, and "3-B" on the toe. The sole extends to cover the heel breast. The shoes have a flared heel cap of brown leather, and the heel is covered by white satin. They are lined at the heel and quarter with white leather, that extends around the topline (bound with tape) like a facing. The upper is lined with white waled cotton. The pumps have "3 -- B / 6, 4515" inscribed with ink on the leather lining. A tag on the left shoe reads, "CAMMEYER / SIXTH AVE. / New York". A.J. Cammeyer was one of the biggest shoe retailers of New York, and are represented often in the MHS collection.
Condition: Very good. 9" long x 4 3/4" tall.
